Earth Day 2017’s Campaign is Environmental & Climate Literacy
Education is the foundation for progress. We need to build a global citizenry fluent in the concepts of climate change and aware of its unprecedented threat to our planet. We need to empower everyone with the knowledge to inspire action in defense of environmental protection.
Environmental and climate literacy is the engine not only for creating green voters and advancing environmental and climate laws and policies but also for accelerating green technologies and jobs.
This Earth Day, at Tilori Malanpur under project Parivartan , a series of events were organized. The first effort was to educate girls and community on the effects of climate change and increasing temperatures, witness to which is temperatures of 46 degress recorded in the month of April alone. This was followed by sharing the correct process to plant trees to ensure their sustainability. This included preparing the ground and mud to be used, along with planting of trees that are feasible for the area. Around 70 people in all including women, adolescent girls and students of sahariya basti participated in the campaign.
