ReNew Power and Sambhav have come together for the implementation of Project Saathi- A CSR Initiative of ReNew Power. The program at large focuses on the integrated development of four villages namely Ladpura, Hullpur, Dhulewala, Ikloud Losgani, and Barkheda, near the Solar Power Plant being setup in Vijaypur block of Sheopur District. The program follows a combination approach of software and hardware activities.  The software component of the program includes formation/strengthening of women groups, formation and strengthening of youth groups, interaction with PRI representatives, IEC activities and school based activities with children. On the other hand, the hardware component of the program includes provision for repair and creation of new water sources, repair and reconstruction of school sanitation systems and provision of drinking water in schools.


The program started in the month of April 2015. The first one month of the project was focused on interaction with the community, building rapport, explaining the genesis of the project. Most of this included contacting the people’s representative, identification of already formed groups in the villages, rapid need assessment of infrastructural investment and communication with the youth.

Following activities have been completed under the project till now:

1- Boring in Village Ladpura- The boring has been supported by ReNew Power in Ladpura, this boring as per the proposal of the village panchayat and the PHE Department has is planned to be connected to the Nal Jal Yojna , for which pipes have already been laid in the past. The boring has been officially handed over to PHE Department by Sambhav. Regular followup is on the PHE Department. As per the officials of the department a supply order has been issued for procurement of submersible pump, on receipt of which the boring will be installed and water will be provided to all 400 household of the village through pipelince.

2- Deepening of Well in Ladpura- A well has been deepened under the project. This well is located in front of the Health Subcenter. About 3 meters of the well has been deepened, which has made sure that ample amount of water is available in the village for the entire years. The next proposed activity in this regard is covering the well and installing a handpump on the platform to prevent contamination of water.

3- New water source in Hullpur- In compliance to the demand of two new water sources in village Hullpur , new borings have been done by Sambhav in Rawat Basti and Harijan Basti. Initially the community agreed to install motor in these borings, however since there is no electricity in the village for the past 20 years, it is being provisioned to install handpumps with construction of platform on these structures.

4-One of the integral part of the program is to involve the various stakeholders with the direct implementation of the project, so as to ensure that the efforts are sustainable and also credited. Hence as a part of project strategy meetings are held with youth groups, women groups, and community as a whole. The meeting contain:
•    Information of various schemes of the government
•    Long term approach of the program
•    Involvement of community in the activities of program
•    Promotion of sanitary hygiene
•    Information on various acts such as MNREGA, RTI and Panchayati Raj

5- Formation of Women Self Help Goups- Two self help groups have been formed in village ikloud under the project. Both of these groups have a saving of around INR 5000 and have started inter-loaning. The process of linking these groups has been initiated with the banks, once the groups successfully complete six months of operation , the local bank is willing to link these groups provide loans to women for income generation.

6- PRI Training- A training program was organized in village Ikloud for 15 members of panchayat, The training was facilitated by Mr.B.S.Narwariya and capacitated information dissemination on the provisions and systems of the Panchayati Raj System, and the importance of regular gram panchayat and gram sabha.

7- School Sanitation and Hygiene Education:  A series of school based activities are organized under the program with school children , which includes sensitizing children on the various dimension of sanitation and hygiene. This also includes regular handwashing classes in all the schools.  The long term approach to this activity includes:
o    Involvement of child as a change agent to spread the sanitary practices in the proven route of Teacher - Children - Family - Community 
o    Greater emphasis on attitude and behavioral change through hygiene education using life skill approach
o    Child friendly especially girl child 
o    Institution building in the form of School WATSAN/Health Committees among students
o    School environmental cleanliness by promoting plantation, proper drainage of solid and liquid waste, ventilated and lighted classroom, etc.
o    Involvement of community and PTA as an equal partner
o    Participation of students, teachers and parents’ group in operation and maintenance of watsan facilities created in the schools
