Slum Environmental Sanitation Initiative |
In Gwalior UN Habitat and Water Aid, India have partnered
with Sa mbhav
as one of the partners to implement the Slum Environment
and Community Sanitation Program. This program covers a
population of 26,000.
Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, are among the first
Indian cities to work in cooperation with UN-HABITAT, the
State Government of Madhya Pradesh to ensure that
investments in the water and sanitation sector reach the
urban poor in these cities. The idea of the UN-HABITAT
initiative is that the project be implemented under a
pro-poor urban governance structure to achieve the
Millennium Development Goal on water and sanitation.

Education either functions as an instrument which is used
to facilitate integration of the younger generation into
the logic of the present system and bring about conformity
or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which
men and women deal critically and creatively with reality
and discover how to participate in the transformation of
their world.
